Cellulase Powder

What is the cellulase enzyme used for?
Cellulase is a group of hydrolase enzymes that catalyze the breakdown of cellulose, a linear glucose polysaccharide and the primary structural component of plant cell walls, into oligosaccharides, cellobiose, and ultimately glucose. Its versatile activity enables applications across multiple industries, converting insoluble plant cellulose into bioavailable or easily processable products.

Mechanism of action:
Cellulase hydrolyzes β-1,4-glycosidic bonds in cellulose, converting long chains into short-chain cellulose, cellobiose, and glucose. The enzyme system including endoglucanase, exoglucanase and β-glucosidase acts synergistically, efficiently breaking down cellulose into fermentable sugars.

Food & Beverage Processing
Cellulase is used to break down plant fibers, improving juice extraction, clarifying beverages, and enhancing processing efficiency. It helps achieve smoother textures, higher yields, and more consistent quality in fruit and vegetable–based products.
Textile Finishing
Cellulase plays a key role in bio-polishing and denim finishing, removing surface fuzz and refining fabric appearance. It provides cleaner, smoother, and more durable effects while reducing reliance on harsh chemical treatments in textile processing.
Feed Production
Cellulase supports the processing of fiber-rich feed materials by improving fiber breakdown and aiding uniform formulation. It helps enhance the handling, stability, and consistency of plant-derived raw materials in modern feed manufacturing.

Multi-Enzyme Activity System: Cellulase typically comprises endoglucanase, exoglucanase, and β-glucosidase, which act synergistically to break down cellulose.
Thermal Stability: Cellulase exhibits broad thermal tolerance, remaining active throughout 40–80 °C. Its catalytic efficiency peaks at 65–75 °C, enabling effective and continuous cellulose hydrolysis.
Substrate Specificity: Cellulase specifically targets β-1,4-glycosidic bonds in cellulose, enabling precise breakdown of plant fibers while leaving other polysaccharides largely unaffected.

Q: Where is cellulase naturally found?
A: Cellulase is naturally produced by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi including Trichoderma and Aspergillus, germinating plant seeds, ruminant rumen microbes, and the digestive systems of termites and other wood-eating insects, all adapted to degrade plant cellulose.
Q: What are the benefits of taking cellulase?
A: Taking cellulase helps break down dietary cellulose from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, improving the release and availability of nutrients and supporting more efficient digestion of plant-based materials, particularly for individuals with lower natural fiber-degrading capacity.
Q: What are the three types of cellulase?
A: Cellulase has three synergistic types: endoglucanase cleaves internal cellulose bonds, exoglucanase releases cellobiose from chain ends, and β-glucosidase breaks cellobiose into glucose, jointly completing cellulose degradation.
